Meet Joe

Joe Erpenbeck is a Vancouver-based consultant, story teller and faculty member of the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Institute at Northwestern University.

Over the last 15 years he has provided training and worked with social service agencies, neighbourhood groups, faith communities and civic groups in the United States and Canada, helping to build neighbourhoods where everyone is included. He provides training on implementation of ABCD and share stories of neighbourhoods in action.  Prior to this Joe worked with people and families affected by disability for 20 years and has held a variety of positions.

Most recently, Joe was the Director of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) in Vancouver, BC. His team consisted of staff from 4 different agencies that partnered with local organizations, businesses and citizens to build on the capacity of community and neighbours to care for each other and become places of hospitality.

Joe’s work is highlighted in Peter Block’s book, Community, The Structure of Belonging and in John McKnight and Block’s book, The Abundant Community.
